Looking for a refreshing yet healthy dessert to cool you down when the summer heat is unrelenting? Spiced Melon Bites are a simple and sweet treat for you or the little ones to enjoy on a sunny day without overheating.
Watermelon and honeydew are great bases for this frozen dessert because of their outstanding nutritional qualities and high water content. Watermelons are 92% water, making them very hydrating. Honeydew does not have as high water content as watermelon, but its diverse nutrient profile provides numerous health benefits. It is a rich source of electrolytes, minerals that play a crucial role in hydration and healing.
Electrolytes facilitate the movement of water and nutrients into our cells, while also removing cell waste. They are essential for electrical activity throughout our body, particularly in our cardiovascular and nervous systems. They also influence the ability of our muscles to contract and relax.
Both watermelon and honeydew melon may aid greatly in the process of rehydration, but watermelon can offer additional benefits for recovery after a hard workout. It contains a pigment called beta-cryptoxanthin that protects our bones and joints from inflammation. Watermelon is also beneficial for our muscles. Citrulline, an amino acid found in watermelon, improves exercise performance and reduces muscle soreness.
Combining watermelon’s high water content with the rich source of electrolytes in honeydew melon makes these Spiced Melon Bites an excellent snack for staying cool on a hot summer day. It’s especially beneficial after a summer workout when our body is depleted of electrolytes and water. To elevate this dessert even more, we sprinkled with anti-inflammatory cinnamon and soothingly sweet coconut flakes.
TIP:
- If freezing the fruit longer than 24 hours, move to an airtight container. Melons will last in the freezer for up to 2 weeks.

Ingredients
2 cups watermelon, cubed
2 cups honeydew, cubed
2 tbsp cinnamon
1/2 cups coconut flakes
Directions
Place cubed melons on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, ensuring the pieces don’t touch. If you don’t have enough room in the freezer, place in a large bowl or freezer-safe storage container. Store in the freezer for at least 8 hours.
To serve, let melon defrost for 5-10 minutes. Sprinkle with cinnamon and coconut flakes.
